En 1958 siendo un joven de tan sólo 17 años se unió como cantante y guitarrista de Los Black Jeans, grupo integrado por los hermanos Cossío, Diego y Juan Manuel, además de Javier de la Cueva, Carlos González Loftus y por supuesto César Roel.
Surgieron como grupo a finales de 1958 en el Distrito Federal. En sus inicios se hacían llamar Los Reyes del Rock, nombre que cambiaron a sugerencia del famoso actor-cómico y empresario del teatro "Follies" Jesús Martínez "Palillo" quien consideró que Los Rebeldes del Rock era mas apropiado para el movimiento que empezaba a tomar gran fuerza en nuestro país.

Mayté se casó con un joven de la Estudiantina de la Universidad de La Salle y se retiró del ambiente artístico. Actualmente vive en España.
