In the spring of 2004 Henrik Kibak, Jotham Fisher-Smith, and Kenton Parker set up a solar-powered 802.11b network that covered large areas of the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve.
The project was funded through a WeTEC and US Department of Education grant administered by Arlene Krebs and Cindy Lopez.

In seceen one Amtrak's southbound Coast Starlight train number 11 passes through a set of bucks in Elkhorn Slough in Elkhorn, California on March 30, 2004. In secene two the same train is stopped while releaseing its track warrant to continue down the Coast Line.
