The man with all that soul, my man Otis! This is a fantastic recording with a very tight touring band. Anybody know who was in it? The drummer hardly moves on the stool, but really drives the group with that fat back. Ready Steady Go Tv from 1967.
From the shortlived live jazz show sunday night. Hosted by Jools Holland, Dave Sanborn. The resident Sunday Night band -- and what a band! -- consisted of Marcus Miller on bass (also musical director of the show), Omar Hakim on drums, Hiram Bullock on guitar and Phillipe Saisse on keyboards. This show ran in 1988. Dizzy was the main guest.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY FROM MAYNARD FERGUSON . THIS WAS RECORDED JULY 4th 2003 AT THE "TASTE OF MINNESOTA " , ST PAUL MINNESOTA. KEVIN MEADS, PATRICK HESSION, AND LARRY FOYEN IN TRUMPET SECTION.
This recording was made in Birmingham,Al at the 1989 DCI South prelims. Great Jazz sound from one of the best. Sorry no drill shots, but who wants to see that when you can get your face in the bell of the screaming sopranos ?!! Starts off with Sammy Nestico's "You gotta Try" Johnny One note at the end.
"Spring really hangs you up the most" composers are Fran Landesman (lyrics) and Tommy Wolf (music). A great rendition by Andrew Hill with the ABAC Jazz Ensemble at the Montreux "Under the skys" festival stage.
This is a recording from raw satellite feed before a Dallas Cowboys football game. Apparantly Dan Fouts and his sidekick never realized this would see the light of day.
Troy State University Troy,Al. "The Sound of the South". This was recorded in 1997 at Hawkinsville,Ga at a high school marching contest. Nice trumpet and trombone solos!
This is a 1991 performance with Gov Doug Wilder in attendance. Overall good show except for the stinker on the fanfare. The mike must have been right in the 3rd trumpets bell! "Baby got back". Is that still the expression used these days?
A Knight at the Apollo - Can't Turn You Loose * Respect * I Feel Good * . This was recorded in Birhamingham, Al at the DCI South prelims. I loved this corps as did many others. In fact countless high school and college bands duplicated this great motown themed show, some almost note for note. I will be posting some of them later.
THE MARCHING TROJANS FROM USC. COULDN'T TELL IF THE CROWD WAS CHEERING FOR THE STATUE OF LIBERTY OR THE TROJANS COMING OUT OF DRESSING ROOM. NICE LOOK AT THE DRUMLINE.
