A video log of our adventure hiking on Mt Herman. My goats Rooster & Peanut dance on the rocks while the 'old goat' works 20m SSB. FT-817 and Buddistick made it all the way to Fairbanks! Not bad for the bottom of the solar cycle.
My Goats and I participated in Field Day a 24-hour test of emergency communication skills and equipment held annually every June. Ham radio operators all over North America set up impromptu stations powered from alternative energy sources to provide a vital communications network nationwide.
My packgoats Rooster & Peanut and I scramble up rock and trail to find a perch for an afternoon of chasing some ham radio contacts. With my FT817/Buddistick and the quiet location I pulled in some fun DX from the south Pacific and Japan.
My pack goats and I hiked up to a favorite ham radio site for an overnight to operate in a QRP contest. Goats made mischief while I made many contacts using my FT-817 and Buddistick antenna.
Adventure Radio Society hosts an annual QRP contest event called Filght of the Bumble Bees. The Bumblebees walk, hike, bike, climb or boat to their sites. Purpose is to encourage outdoor radio activity and have fun. Home stations are welcomed to participate as well. Dave -NK0E, goats and I had a great time! Dave used his K1 w/G5RV and I had my FT817 buddipole and jumper dipole.
On a cold-snowy Saturday afternoon on Mt Herman (9000'ASL) I made numerous contacts with stations on both coasts using my FT817(5w) and Buddistick. My packgoats Rooster&Peanut who normally hike with me stayed in touch as the kept watch on the barn.
Day 3 was bitter sweet as we hiked out to the trail head after 3-days camping. But hamming on the mesa was the pinnacle of our adventure! Guy/N7UN's K1 & 40m sloper yield many QSOs as did my Ft817 and Buddistick. The DX was the real surprise!!
Dan explains how he puts a new colony of bees into their new hive. Protective clothing, tools and equipment are shown and explained. If you have any comments or questions about the video or for Dan please contact him at email: mtnbee@msn.com
While hiking on Mt Herman in Colorado my goat buddies played on the rocky edge of the cliffs in the background. Meanwhile I used my QRP ham radio gear and made contacts with QRP and DX stations using a FT817 and home made Buddistick. Fun day in the snow and mountains!
Video #3 from our Old Goats QRPxpedition on Uncompahgre Peak as NØB. A video QSL of the stations we made contact with. My pack goat Peanut dances to a Cuban Bosa Nova.
My Goats and I hiked up Mt Herman to watch the Thunderbirds practice their flyovers for the AFA graduation ceremony. We also had fun making several QRP ham radio contacts with the FT-817 and sloper dipole
Me and my 2-pack goats Rooster and Peanut on a day hike on Raspberry Mtn in deep Colorado snow. Setup an antenna and make some ham radio QRP contacts, have lunch and return to trail head. Nice weather for a change!
Guy/N7UN and Steve/NØTU on day one of our backpack QRP expedition in Utah's Canyonlands. This first day we hike to Devil's Pocket and set up camp and ham radio station with K1 and inverted vee antenna.
Guy/N7UN and Steve/NØTU on day two of our backpack QRP expedition in Utah's Canyonlands. Day 2 we hiked to Druid Arch and looked for water then returned to camp and fired up the ham radio station with K1 and inverted vee antenna
From Mt Herman Colorado my goats and I spent the afternoon chasing QRP radio contacts on 20m using a FT-817 and Buddistick. With our cliffhanger mountain top location it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Fun day on the mountain!
