It is one of Hawaii's most beautiful yet dangerous beaches with surf crashing close to shore. It's also a frequent resting spot for endangered monk seals. Burma (Myanmar) in July 2006 was restless, yet peaceful. This video shows the magnificent Shwedagon Temple, the ancient capital of Pagan (Bagan), monks seeking alms, and a monk's remarkable demonstration of how to fold his robe. Video by Karen and Nicole Knudsen.
2008 is starting with a renewed push by a developer to build 181 "cabins" on preservation land above Ka Iwi (between Sandy's and Makapu'u, East Oahu) at Mau'uwai and Queen's Rise.
